Questions
Here are answers to common questions about our landscaping services. Explore how we can enhance your outdoor space and address any queries you may have about our expertise and offerings.
In-Person: Weekly for Animal Feeding
Hogs & Kisses Farm Sanctuary provides care for 7 large hogs, 5 domesticated rabbits, and 2 large broad breasted turkeys. Animal feeding shifts are twice per day, breakfast and dinner, and lasts about 2 hours. Breakfast feeding is 8-10am, but when daylight savings, we shift start time to 7:30am. Dinner feeding is 5-7pm each evening, but when daylight savings, we shift to 4-6pm daily. Interested volunteers would select a day of the week and morning or evening shift, and commit to at least 3 months of weekly volunteering.
Chores include:
Making food bowls and keep feed supplies organized
Perform animal grooming routines (ie nail trimming, brushing, sunscreen application)
Cleaning bowls, farm items, animal enclosures, and/or animal bedding
Daily cleaning of animal waste and composting
Maintaining and cleaning drinking bowls/troughs throughout the pasture
Sweeping and general cleaning of animal prep area
Supply animal enrichment as needed
Operating farm equipment (ie Gator ATV, ladder, rakes, shovels, etc)
Lots of walking throughout sanctuary grounds (much of the land is sloped)
Must be able and willing to lift 40-50lbs (ie. water buckets, or feed bags, or litter boxes)
Must be able to bend, lift, push, stoop, stretch, climb, crawl and other physical activities as needed
Must be able and willing to work in any weather condition (four seasons)
In-Person: Monthly Projects
Busy? Can’t commit to weekly feedings? No problem! There are an incredible amount of projects to complete around the sanctuary. We schedule monthly projects when volunteers can join as available, usually on Saturdays or Sundays and between 11am - 2pm.
Examples of projects include:
Pig barn or turkey coop mucking
Scooping poop in pasture and turning compost
Repairing structures (worn wood panels) or fixing gate bolts
Making enrichment items (dig box, dust bath, pool, etc)
Cleaning or preparing for changing seasons (insulation, fans, tarps, vacuuming, etc)
Planting vegetables or plants
Remote: Nonprofit Development
Don’t live close to our sanctuary, but still would love to help? Great! We’ve got plenty of nonprofit development tasks to accomplish. We can meet at mutually agreed upon time to plan, discuss and execute.
Tasks include:
Social media
Marketing and email campaigns
Managing receipts or light accounting
Grant writing
Both In-Person and Remote: Event Planning Committee
Hogs & Kisses loves hosting community events at the sanctuary. We work best with a strong team. If you enjoy event planning, connecting with community groups and businesses, and designing events on the day, we would love you to join our Event Planning Committee.
Our annual event is called the Barnwarming and is held on the first Saturday of May each year. Our committee begins planning 10 months ahead, meeting monthly and then bi-weekly closer to the event. Majority of the work is done remotely, however the weekend of the event will be in-person to set up, host event, then break down event items.
We also host smaller events, such as Valen-Swine Event, Sanctuary Sunset Savasana, Vegan S’mores Firepit, where we plan 2-3 months ahead and most work is done remotely, however the day of the event will be held at the sanctuary.
